Google Currently Working on App Trial Technology

As smartphones and tablets started to dominate the global computing market, and with rise in popularity of mobile apps, there has been lots of speculation about whether mobile apps would replace the websites. These days, most reputed businesses have both a website and a mobile app, and typically mobile users prefer using native apps. So, people started to ask the question whether websites will lose its importance on the web. But even now people still visit websites for information due to several good reasons.

First, many people still use their desktop PC or laptop to access the web and second, not all websites have a companion mobile app. Another reason why mobile apps have not replaced websites is that mobile apps consume your bandwidth, storage space, screen estate and take time to download. For these reasons, it makes sense to use your smartphone’s web browser to access the majority of websites, then download mobile apps for a handful of popular websites that you often use.

As we know Google try to introduce more interesting and innovative things and the internet giant is working on its new App Trial Technology when successful it will remove some of those obstacles mentioned above.

Defining Google’s App Trial Technology

According to The Information, Google is said to working on a solution that will help mobile users to download trial versions of Android apps before using the fully-featured version. With the new App Trial Technology, Google aims to save mobile user time and data usage on their mobile device plans as well as lead to more downloads, according to a Google employee who is involved in the discussions about the new technology. The app trial approach could be especially useful in developing countries where high affordability is the important aspect when it comes to downloading paid apps. But it is unclear whether the technology giant will go about this by asking Android app developers to create a demo or trial version of their app or if Google will develop streamlined versions themselves through the Google Play Store.

Will the New App Technology Replace Websites?

According to Flurry Analytics, native mobile app usage continues to dominate mobile internet usage with the percentage of time spent in native apps up 6% this year to 86% when compared to 14% of mobile web usage. Out of this 14% mobile internet usage, it is safe to say that a good chunk of that comes from search. According to many experts, websites aren’t going anywhere for the immediate future. And the trends of faster data speeds, smaller app sizing, and increased mobile usage, through Google’s App Trial Technology puts us on a way where websites will be considered a derived path to accessing information behind mobile apps.

This internet to native dominance transition will most probably lead to next generation level search engine optimization in which search signals and attention is spread across a world of conventional sites, mobile apps and wide range of web-connected devices.
